Every liturgy tells a story. As church-goers, many make the mistake of splitting the liturgy into multiple separate stories. Some may think, “When we sing, that’s worship, and then there’s the sermon.” Perhaps others fall on the other side, suffering through the singing part to get to the preaching part. Instead, we should acknowledge that our entire gathering time is an act of worship. Every aspect – the greeting time in the lobby, the organ prelude, the announcements, the offering, the singing, the preaching, the benediction – tells part of the story. Everything we do has something to say about the gospel.
